Quilt Gallery

This was to be my year of accomplishment and although I didn't finish everything, I am amazed at all I did. I have a tendency to start too many projects....imagine that! I do so have some additions to the quilt gallery. I hope to have more soon.

I will add photographs of the quilts I have made. This will take some time so I will consider this page under construction for a while.

I like batik fabrics. Some of my favorite quilts are made with batik. The quilt at the top of the page was made at a class that taught curved piecing. The quilt is a wall hanging for a reason! The quilt above was a fun projects. The colors pick up the fabric colors in a sofa that I bought when I was moving to Sarasota.

I became a quilter or more accurately a piecer after seeing a scrap quilt at an antique show some 40 years ago. It was around 400.00. I was newly married and 400.00 was not in the budget and, actually looking back, was grossly overpriced. I knew I could make this quilt. And that's how it started. I can't tell you how many I have made. I use a ruler and rotary cutter and make them by machine. I have them quilted because I don't have the patience for hand quilting. I am also a perfectionist and I cannot make perfect stitches. So, out the door they go to the longarm quilter and I am delighted with their work.

Life got in the way of quilting for a few years. In the beginning I reproduced antique scrap quilts and searched high and low for fabrics that would give the feel of age. These fabrics are readily available now. When we decided to move to Florida from Maine, the antique quilts did not really fit in with the look I wanted. I didn't quilt for a while.

I was thrilled when Kaffe Fassett entered the quilting world. His fabrics were bright and colorful and because he is a brilliant designer (in my opinion), there is no struggling with which fabrics to use. His all work - regardless of scale and design.
