Fiesta on the table

For years I have coveted admired Fiesta ware. This dinnerware can be read about here. I love all the colors. Recently, I was able to find dinner plates, some bowls and a few other pieces. Now, we can keep our eyes open for some of the more unusual pieces as we are out and about. The dishes are perfect in the cabin and match some of the other vintage items I have.

 

The last of the zinnias match the dishes in the cupboard!

 

 

 

I also collect banded glassware. I found these shot glasses and carrier at Deb’s Flowerbed Farm in Bridgton. I don’t need shot glasses but centerpiece came to mind! The garden is almost gone but these yellow snapdragons were still blooming.

 

I have had this vintage tablecloth for a few years. The Fiesta picks up the colors.

 

The two little specks on the lake are the loons – just out of camera range, of course. There are an adult and a chick and they fish in the cove while we eat dinner.

An Apple Crisp Kind of Day

 

The weather is really changing. The leaves are starting to turn. The air is crisp. The lake is sparkling. The sky is very blue. The loon chick is old enough to spend the night in the cove by himself. The acorns are almost the size of golf balls but sound like coconuts when they hit the roof of the cottage. Yup, it is time for apple crisp. The apron came off the back of the chair.

The pot holder came off the hook. The pot holder was embroidered on my embroidery machine and the binding is vintage feed sack fabric. Both the apron and the potholder are for display only. My everyday potholders are not available for pictures!  A friend made the apron from a picnic design fabric and because there is no ironing in the cabin, it would never look the same if I washed it.

In a mixing bowl measure 3/4 cup brown sugar, 1/2 cup old-fashioned oats, and 1/2 cup all purpose flower.

Add, 3/4 cup ground cinnamon and 3/4 cup nutmeg.

Soften 1/3 cup butter and mix all together.

Peel, core and slice 4 apples. Put in a greased pan.

Sprinkle oatmeal mixture over apples and bake at 375 degrees.

Bake until top is brown and crispy and apples are tender – about 30 minutes. Serve with cream or ice cream.

Jack grabbed it before I could wipe the edge of the bowl!

Mosaics for Monday

 

 

I am joining Mary at Little Red House for Mosaic Monday. Collages, mosaics and playing with photos is just about my favorite thing these days. My friends in blogland have sparked my interest in these projects. I am experimenting with textures and backgrounds.

The background for this collage was a picture of freshly shelled peas.

 

 

I used Picnik and Photoscape to create this effect. I cannot tell anyone exactly how I did this but I just keep playing with the effects and tools and filters. I always save the original but I don’t save all my experiments!

I played around with Picnik for this next mosaic. It will be a part of my Pink Saturday posting next week.

 

I have a new program I am trying called Photofiltre. Pat of Back Porch Musings did a guest appearance for Brenda at Cozy Little House and mentioned it. Lots of options to try. I used several filters. Then I brought it back into Photoscape for layering and framing. The original photo is in the smaller frame and altered one serves as the background.

Pink Saturday on 9/11

We will never forget how the world changed on that fateful day. These roses resemble the beautiful peace rose. May we have peace in our lives and appreciate the beauty that we can find when we search our hearts and our world. God Bless.

Experiencing technical difficulties….

 

It started when my computer could not find a battery – battery had  died. Very expensive to replace and delivery would be 8 weeks…Then I would be typing merrily away and only a third of the letters showed up making for some very unusual words and punctuation. Then the touch pad did not like to be touched and it kept jumping out of reach and the pages would scroll and scroll and scroll…

So, after 5 years of excellent performance, it all fell apart. Yesterday I bit the bullet and bought a new computer. I am downloading and updating and installing and moving files. Very, very time consuming.

I hope to finish all of this today and tomorrow and I will be catching up on my visiting very soon.
