Look what followed me home....

I have always been a collector. When I moved to Florida, I was brutal in my downsizing. Now I write this blog and I find myself collecting and gathering once again....I had 2 Singer Featherweight sewing machines. I sold one and gifted the other. I never really missed them until recently. There is a blogger who uses one....I can't remember who it is but something stuck in the back of my mind. I looked them up on eBay. Last Sunday we were supposed to go to the fair but the weather was horrid so we went antiquing. And there right as I walked in was a Singer Featherweight in all her glory. What's a girl to do????

She runs like a charm and has all her parts. She was made in 1955. I was 11.

Now if I could just get this quilt sewn together!

Can I say how jealous I am? I've always wanted a Featherweight. I had the opportunity to use one a couple of years ago when I was working in San Diego. I simply loved it.

Congratulations!

Beautiful! I'm in awe of the fact that the case doesn't smell! Lucky Girl.

What a little beauty! They truly don't make them like they used to. I can already tell that the quilt is lovely.

Oh, to be able to sew...I didn't get that gene, nor one for music!

This makes me wonder what happened to my grandmother's machine! I loved these, and I can still see her making doll clothes or "rompers" for me on hers, though it was older than the fifties.

Glad you found this. Have fun using it, Carol!

Sheila

Though I have nothing as exquisite as your lady singer, I can understand the need. And, why not? Why not, indeed....Enjoy!

Looks like it's going to be a beauty!

How wonderful that you have found a Featherweight, and one in such wonderful condition. They are the best machines ever made and will sew on any type of fabric. I have a 1950 Century Edition one that looks just like yours, and have pieced many quilts with it. Did you know that you can get a 1/4 inch foot for piecing made just for the featherweight?

Happy quilting! Enjoyed my visit to your lovely blog....like your new look, and was very touched by your 'He Called Me Roon' memorial.

Very nice Carol, I'd say it's karma-enjoy! I have my G-Mom-B's old peddle singer, still works:@)

So it's an official antique, right Carol? The fast that it is shiny and works is fabulous. Congrats on a fine find! Enjoy her...and I'm betting you'll get that quilt finished up while you enjoy your new friend.

Carol - your tribute to your husband is so touching. Your story of two loves is evidence of the respect you have for each chapter of your life.
Thanks for the closeups of your "fresh out of the box" Featherweight. They bring back such memories for me. I think i'll be on the hunt for a special treasure like yours from now on.

Vee sort of "sent" me over. Just had to look. What's a girl to do? Buy, of course! Beautiful machine. Beautiful quilt, too.

Beautiful! I bought myself one (doesn't run) a few years ago just because I think they are pieces of art! It sits in my sewing room. How fun that yours works so well.

Oh Carol, she is a FAMOUS sewing machine! The Featherweights are legendary.

And she's gorgeous. Was she in such beautiful shape when you first laid eyes on her? She looks brand new.

What a beauty. That's when Singer really knew its onions in making machines.

1955? I was 3. Wow, that's awhile ago!

And yes I agree -- my rose bowl is gorgeous. I always wanted one, and years ago I had a dear friend (we met through our dogs!) and she knew I couldn't afford to get one. I cared for her beautiful Golden for a couple of weeks and when Winnie came back for Jenny, she had a beautifully wrapped box and inside -- this rose bowl. I use it all the time --love it as much now as I did when Winnie gave it to me.

I've never met a flower that didn't look great in it. Winnie now lives far away, but every once in awhile I email her a picture of "our" rosebowl, holding beautiful flowers.

I'm waiting for my antiquing buddy-du-jour to show up --- she's a 28 year old former Sunday School student of mine, not working right now, and her husband's away this week. Why she wants to hang out with this old bag, I have no idea!

But she's a darling. We did something similar a couple of weeks ago and said "let's do this again," so we are.

Have a great Tuesday!

Meant to say, regarding you comment on the workings of the Featherweight -- I wish I ran like a charm and had all of MY parts too!

She is a stunner, no wonder you fell for her.
Happy sewing!

Carol -- it's me again, and I just realized that my post today has the same title as this post -- it must have been a subliminal suggestion leftover from my reading yours! DARN.

I am so sorry! Hit me with the plagiarizing stick!

BTW the OLD Entenmann's crumb cake was perfection. The cake now is a pale shadow of its original self -- Entenmann's in general is not the good quality boxed cake that it used to be when the family still owned it. It's soggy now -- too bad!

And now I'm slinking away.
Like a (title) thief in the night ...

My mom had this one. I made a very heavy coat on it in the 70's. I just saw one at the sewing machine shop when I went to pick up my tuned up machine - it was $450.00.
