I am joining Beverly of How Sweet the Sound for Pink Saturday. This week we can include the traditional pinks or celebrate with the colors of the 4th. Beverly hosts this event each week and I hate to miss it!
I have such fond memories of the 4th growing up in New Jersey. There were fireworks, picnics, parades and good food. There were American flags. We had sparklers. We would go to Green Village for a wonderful cookout at Uncle George’s. He was an avid fisherman and a master at the outdoor fireplace. The picnic tables were pushed together because there was always a large crowd.
My sister and I were always on our best behavior at his home. He had never had any children and he was quite gruff with us. However, he danced with me at my wedding on July 9th 1966. I digress…but I love this picture.
So, on many the 4th’s we would go to his home. There were horseshoes and croquet.
and fresh peas……
There was potato salad and pie for dessert. One of my favorite pies is rhubarb.
I have tried to keep some of these traditions alive although we are all quite far apart these days. Today my youngest son will come for a cookout with my grandchildren. We will have a cookout and some time at the beach. And if we stay up late enough, we will be able to see the fireworks at the end of the lake.
Hope you have a wonderful and safe 4th and Happy Pink Saturday. I need to make that potato salad now!
