The list just seems to get longer

And I am sometimes just overwhelmed. I did get Gram's date and nut bread baked for Thanksgiving.

It is good. We tested it.

But there are just so many things I want to do and they are competing with what I have to do and then there is the Allergic Contact Dermatitis that has graced my knitting fingers (thumbs and index). I noticed earlier this summer that these fingers were spongy and dry and flakey and cracked. I was also knitting on hand-dyed yarn with metal needles. Yes, I am allergic to nickel and lanolin in wool and most likely some of the dyes. I didn't know. So, I did not knit all summer. I have just started again with alpaca yarn and plastic needles. 5 nights out of seven I soak my hands in warm water, slather on a prescription ointment and put on cotton gloves for the night. An over the counter lotion for the rest of the days and as needed.

I really need to finish this One-Block-Wonder quilt top. Seems a little daunting right now.

I have been playing with my Featherweight sewing machine and did manage to finish a cover for her.

We are looking forward to the holidays and as my fingers get better, I will get back into my "crafty" mode hopefully. In the meantime there is the list of things that need to be done around the house.

Carol, I feel badly that your fingers are still reacting to the nickle. But, you do have another talent...sewing. Perhaps, this is what it will have to be for a while. Love your sewing machine cover. The main focus is to enjoy yourself.

I suffer from contact dermatitis too Carol so I know the annoyance you are going through. It gets so itchy and nearly drives me crazy. It's usually between my fingers or on them. I find this time of year when I start wearing gloves again it starts up and if I'm cooking or baking a lot and have my hands in water it aggravates it too. I have a corticosteroid ointment that I use on it. Very annoying. Your quilt is absolutely gorgeous! I love the muted colours and the block design in it. Also, the sewing machine cover is really pretty. You are a talented lady! Have a great day. Blessings, Pamela

I am so sorry to hear this, Carol. I hope the lotion works and that you are back into craft mode soon. That has got to be so frustrating. Any time something slows us down or impedes our ability to be productive, it can be so frustrating. I tend to read a lot when I am in recoup mode. I have been trapped in the house for going on two months, but it has passed rapidly.. I hope your recovery comes just as quickly.

If you feel that you can't get all the cooking done, cheat. Get a local barbecue place to smoke your turkey for you. Cracker Barrel makes fabulous cornbread dressing. Some of us who used to do it all found out about it and go there now! They also do other things, too. And believe it or not, Publix makes a decent cranberry relish/sauce. Make it easy on yourself. No one will mind.

Carol, you must finish that quilt -- it is GORGEOUS.
But I am joining the club on too many things on my list, and too little time/motivation/energy --- or all of the above --- to get it all done.

I beat myself over the head every night when I realize all the things I did NOT accomplish that day.

How lousy that you are allergic to lanolin -- and metal needles? They are my knitting needle of choice .. I love the swish-swish-swish noise they make.

Get better!!
And I guess I should also say, "don't sweat the list - it's not matters of life and death!" and then I need to apply that to myself.

Carol, that dermatitis doesn't sound one bit pleasant. Hope that it clears and you can stay away from the yarn. My daughter-in-law bought some hand-dyed yarn at the fair in October and has been stained deep purple ever since. Yikes!

What an exquisite and detailed quilt block!

Hi Carol, just catching up, sorry I am late. I love the quilt block look very unusual but very attractive and very hard work.

Sorry to hear about your allergies, It is surprising what we develop as we get older, I hope the creams etc.. soon clear it up. As I don't knit I don't know if there is any difference with plastic or metal needles but you are so creative and patient I am sure it is all looking great.

Look after yourself and I know that Jack loves cooking ( unlike Phil!!).

Love Jackie in Surrey, UK.
