Sunday Favorites – At Last….

writeroval-1-1

We are back in Maine and almost settled. The weather has been ok. Last year it rained forever. So far this summer, a little sun and a little rain. Next week I hope to get back to more regular blogging and visiting.

The cabin is cozy and less cluttered this year. I am not going to be sewing this year because of the bad hip. I tend to make a real “takeover” mess when a quilt is in progress. Knitting and crocheting are a little more compact. I will be getting a new hip in July!

I am joining Chari at Happy to Design for Sunday Favorites and this post is a repeat of my sewing room transformation.

I bought this house before I remarried. My first husband had passed away and I decided that I needed to have a different life. My children were grown and busy with their lives and I was restless. So I bought this home and got a job. I went back to Maine for a quick visit and met Jack and the rest, as they say, is history. My guest room has served as an office and studio for some time and it wasn’t working. So this year I decided to make some major changes….

The room was pretty as long as I wasn’t in the middle of a project or really busy on the computer. The bed and chair were always piled up.

I called in my decorator….

She hired a clerk of the works……(he spent most of his time gawking at her!)

So, I got rid of the double bed for a start and bought a Murphy Bed. Then a new desk was acquired and then a comfy chair. But my favorite is the project table that I got on sale from Pottery Barn. I can still sew back in the corner but my embroidery machines sits happily on the table. Let me show you some new pictures.

On the ottoman is stuff to go through and deal with – I just wanted to give you a sense of the room because I do work in it and although I like things pristine, my creativity spawns clutter!

On the project table I have my Cricut and my embroidery machine. If I were embroidering, there would be several trays of thread. So in this picture, the table looks quite good.

I love the desk. It is very functional but allows me to display some favorite family pieces.

I usually have iTunes playing from the Mac. Right now I am playing Andrea Bocelli.

To my left is the sewing area. The design wall holds my latest effort. I need to get that finished.

Over the weekend, I really tried to put a push on some more organized pictures. So I pretended I needed the guest room for company! I cleaned off the project table except for the embroidery machine and fluffed the pillows and voila! Behind these shelves…..

So a vase on the way into the room.

I hope you enjoyed this transformation. Now I have a hundred things I want to make and the room will probably never look the same again!

Carol, your studio transformation is tremendous! It's such a cozy workable space and was fun shopping for all the beautiful pieces of furniture. What a HUGE project! Beautifully put together we must say.

Hi Carol

You have such wonderful fabrics on the wall. I am always so envious of anyone who can make things with their hands, I just don't have the patience, and I know you make the most marvellous quilts!!

I see you have the pictures in the Blog list!!

What a wonderful and inspiring room to work in! And the Murphy Bed is fantastic -- a terrific solution to space issues.

I also love an organized space, but when I am in the midst of a project -- all bets are off, and it is "creative chaos." I used to have a large corner of our family room for my machines and projects -- here in the Old House I don't have that but -- hopefully this summer -- one of the small upstairs bedrooms will be transformed into a sewing/arts/crafts room.

My mother always had a dedicated sewing room. (with a sofa that pulled out to a bed if needed). There is nothing like being able to close the door on that clamoring creative chaos!

PS A new hip sounds just what the doctor ordered, as they say.

It looks like some seriously fabulous creations come from this room.
I like to have my little guest room all clean and ready at all times just so I can walk by, peak in and see at least one clean, non messy room in my house because heaven knows the rest of it is such a mess most of the time. Lol.

Hello Carol - I'm catching up since returning from Africa - the most awesome trip of my life -and see you are now back in beautiful Maine.

Your new room looks amazing - what a wonderful idea is the Murphy bed, freeing up all that great space to create and have fun in!

Hope all will go well with your hip replacement in July - many friends have had this surgery and all have done exceeding well, so good luck.

Have a wonderful Summer - I'll be in New Hampshire for 4th of July and then heading to Montreal and Quebec for a visit. It will be nice to get away from this awful heat - already close to 100 degrees this past week.

Take care,
Mary - A Breath of Fresh Air (formerly Across the Pond)

It looks like you achieved your goal of having a better workroom with space for a guest. We are considering a murphy bed for our new house. When we lived in Maine we built our own murphy bed and it worked wonderfully.

Thanks for being a follower of Porch Days. I enjoyed reading your blog and will be a follower so I can keep up with your activities.
