So long Irene....

What a day! Now the storm is over and the sky is blue. It was a very long day. No serious damage but still damage. Some of the trees that graced the edge of the lake are now in the lake and a huge tree fell and split about 10 feet from the cabin. We had undecorated the gardens and I am glad we did or they would have been decorated with many branches. The porch on the cabin got wet from around the windows as the rain and wind roared. Luckily we did not lose power.

What amazed me was the lack of coverage for our area. Maine was barely mentioned and even the stations in Portland failed to mention that the lakes region was being slammed. We found it difficult to get information.

I hope those of you in Irene's path fared well. And thank you to all of you who sent emails and comments here and on Facebook. I shall try for a more creative post later this week.

Now the cleanup will begin.

Just be sure you and Jack don't overdo it as you set about cleanup, my friend. I'll be thinking of you.
Love - and so glad you're safe!

I'm glad it wasn't any worse. I tried to keep up with it all weekend. The news does seem to focus on the larger areas. We found that out with Katrina. Of course, New Orleans was hit hard from the flooding, but there were some little towns way past there that were completely wiped out - nothing left. Little of that was mentioned in the news.
Take care.

Glad to hear you are safe. It was just a big 'ol wind and rain storm here but the power is off in a lot of areas due to downed trees on the lines. We got about 60 mm of rain in our area. The sun will be shining soon I think. Have a great week! Pamela

So glad you are o.k.. We spent the weekend worrying about our son and DIL in North Attleboro. They are o.k.. Don't know if they could get to their jobs in Providence and New Bedford. We had a lovely mild and sunny day. Felt a little guilty!

Best,
Bonnie

So glad all is well and don't envy you the clean up. It's wonderful you did not lose power that makes such a differece.

I wonder if the coverage waned by the time the storm reached you maybe because of Irene fatigue...it had been nonstop on the news for so long. Football games were coming on, etc. Who knows.

Glad to hear that you did not have major damage except for the tree. The winds and rain would have been bad enough. Hope things are back to normal very soon.

This is THE MOST POSITIVE POST I ever wanted to hear! Yes, it WAS frustrating not to be able to get any news about Maine...I agree. It was like you didn't even exist. Not one mention that I heard.

Warm DRY Hugs to you & Jack both & like Donna said, don't kill yourselves trying to clean it all up at once.

I'm so glad you didn't get much damage Carol. Losing trees is always so sad to me. You are so right - Maine did not get much coverage at all.

While the eye of Irene was going over our little islands in the northern Bahamas, all they talked about on television was New York. And Irene was days away from NY and not a sure bet. Again, I'm relieved to hear you are okay.

Wasn't it a terrible storm. We had lots of branches all over the yard but luckily no limbs.

You didn't lose power? Wow. I'm glad that you didn't, but surprised that you didn't. I don't feel that we got slammed here, but we lost power nevertheless. I smiled and nodded when you said that you had undecorated the garden. I'm glad that we did as well. It's taken the morning glory all week to semi-recover. Lots of buds knocked off without blooming.
