My summer vacation.....

These stitch markers belonged to my mother. She was a beautiful knitter. I found them in a box of her needles not long ago. She was most organized and only had one set of each size. I, on the other hand, have many duplicates. Hers are straight needles and I only use circular now but I shall save them and in the meantime use her markers.

She died 13 years ago on September 13. So much has happened in these years and my life is so different but what I wouldn't give to have a good chat while we knit or did needlepoint.

So, onto my summer vacation. It has been an odd summer. The weather has been ok but we usually say it is glorious. When it is gray and rainy or foggy and I cannot see the lake I get cabin feverish. My garden was overtaken by bugs. The Nasturtiums were absolutely destroyed and my herbs did not fare well.

Here is  picture of the flowers before the bugs moved in to feast.

This white zinnia performed quite well with the marigolds.

One of the highlights on the summer was a picture taken by Jack as he kayaked around the lake.

I have not posted too much this summer as my internet connection has not been wonderful. I have become quite dependent on the internet for information and communication.

We are getting anxious to get back to Florida. We are thankful to have the best of both worlds but the transition gets a little more difficult each year.

My next post will be on what I accomplished! Knitting and reading were major this year.

Have a wonderful week.

Hi Carol. I have missed your posts as I was away a lot in August but was just thinking of you yesterday and wondering where you were. I'm sorry your internet connection is so bad. That would be frustrating to be so out of touch and not able to blog. The Japanese beatles sound like they loved your garden flowers this year. We don't have them in New Brunswick that I know of but since we are neighbours they probably aren't too far away! We had a really hot dry summer here and I loved it. My kind of weather. With your computer downtime you at least accomplished a lot of handwork (which I don't do) to pass the time. Take care and have a lovely week. Fall weather is creeping in quickly. Blessings, Pamela

It has not been the same without you this summer. I wish that the cable connection had been better. The bugs were terrible this summer with all the wet. Hope that you're sticking around for some foliage.

Hi Carol, We have had a very hot and dry summer this year. I would have loved to have had some of the rain that others got to much of. All we can say is that we have had a truly weird year. I am happy to see a post from you so that we know you are o.k. I have been busy working on a commission lap quilt with my still working full-time and being a primary care giver it is taking a little longer then I like. My baby quilt is not going to be ready in time for the baby shower, but will be here when the baby arrives. Have a great week. Hugs and Prayers from Your Missouri Friend.

Like you we've had a strange summer, the vegetables and soft fruits in my potager have been eaten by birds, bugs & slugs!
Looking forward to our vacation in SC next month, maybe we'll find the sun waiting for us there?
Have a wonderful week, my dear.

Safe travels as you pack up & head south, Carol! I, too, have missed your posts but I've not been blogging much lately either.

I was inspired by all your GORGEOUS knitting & dug out my needles to try to re-learn the art. You amaze me with what you've created!!!

Hoping to see you in person in 2013.
Hugs,
Rett

I do not knit and had never seen stitch makers before, so I learnt something new today. :)

Sometimes a summer is just like that - last summer our garden was chewed up by grasshoppers and this year it's a huge success. We've harvested so much and there is still a lot of vegetables to bring in. Hope that your move goes well!

Hi Carol, I am sorry to read your garden was eaten by bugs, ours was eaten by grasshoppers. My iris were just holes. Can't wait to hear what you have been knitting. I picked up my knitting needles after a 20 year hiatus. Take care, Jen.
