I am joining Amy in Park City for the Spring Bloggers Quilt Festival.
I am sharing my New Orleans Star from Kaffe Fassett’s book Kaleidoscope of Quilts.
When his books come out everything stops while I decide which one I am going to make. And because I absolutely love his fabric and his colors, I very often buy the kit from his website Glorious Color. Years ago I would have scorned a kit but as I age (ugh) and mellow, I find that I want a project that I can finish, one that doesn’t take hours to gather, and one that doesn’t leave me with tons of fabric that I probably will never use. However, my fabric stash does exist – full of batiks, other Kaffe fabrics and Christmas fabric.
I think this is quilt that can speak to the Gulf today as well as when it was designed after hurricane Katrina. The colors represent the flooding and its aftermath with light and bright spots of color offering hope. Of all my quilts, this one always gets a lot of attention. The quilt was designed by Liza Prior Lucy who works with Kaffe. The fabrics are designed by Kaffe, Martha Negley and Phillip Jacobs. You can read more about Kaffe here and see his fabrics here.
I had trouble getting a picture of the whole quilt. One of my helpers was very tall! I think this was the best picture of the whole quilt.

That is fabulous. I love Kaffe, his colours and his combinations. I'm making diagonal madness myself at the moment and it's just a colour overload (in a good way). Your quilt is beautiful and I love how you chose a soft colour for the back.

I so enjoyed seeing your lovely star quilt. The fabrics in it seem vintage, yet at the same time even have a modern feel. I would like something like that myself! The larger scale florals have a watercolor like effect! I have enjoyed my visit! I also like what you are doing with your photography! The peonies are so beautiful and I agree that they'd make good notecards!

Awesome - I just bought my first Kaffe Fassett fabric a couple of weeks ago and am planning how I want to use it. Great quilt!
love kaffee fassett's quilts and fabrics. in the midst of a pickle dish and a couple other of his quilts. adapting on to small quilts for neonatal unit at the hospital--have made a couple for friends' babies and they love them--don't know who could resist, though!! great job and your other quilts that i saw are lovely, too.

I know exactly what you mean about every new Kaffe book stopping everything while you decide. I LOVE everything he does! I have made many quilts from his "recipes" and they are some of my very favorites. I had the opportunity to see his exhibit in Paducah back in April, and was in awe . . . yours is wonderful . . . thanks for sharing.
