Pink for the 4th of July

I am joining Beverly of How Sweet the Sound for Pink Saturday. This week we can  include the traditional pinks or celebrate with the colors of the 4th. Beverly hosts this event each week and I hate to miss it!

I have such fond memories of the 4th growing up in New Jersey. There were fireworks, picnics,  parades and good food. There were American flags. We had sparklers. We would go to Green Village for a wonderful cookout at Uncle George’s. He was an avid fisherman and a master at the outdoor fireplace. The picnic tables were pushed together because there was always a large crowd.

My sister and I were always on our best behavior at his home. He had never had any children and he was quite gruff with us. However, he danced with me at my wedding on July 9th 1966. I digress…but I love this picture.

So, on many the 4th’s we would go to his home. There were horseshoes and croquet.

There was potato salad and pie for dessert. One of my favorite pies is rhubarb.

I have tried to keep some of these traditions alive although we are all quite far apart these days. Today my youngest son will come for a cookout with my grandchildren. We will have a cookout and some time at the beach. And if we stay up late enough, we will be able to see the fireworks at the end of the lake.

Hope you have a wonderful and safe 4th and Happy Pink Saturday. I need to make that potato salad now!

What a nice trip down memory lane. I think about those times and can remember the taste of the grilled blue fish, rainbow trout, corn on the cob ... yum! Don't forgetthe Adirondack chairs, the slider chair under a canopy, the fox we saw in the woods and Aunt Hilda's cherry pie, though she came later.

Happy 4th of July to you. Hey to Jack, Greg and the kids!

Hi Carol,
Love the wedding photo of you and your Uncle George. Your wedding veil looks like one my SIL wore in her wedding in 1969. You were a very pretty and young bride. I graduated from high school in 1965 but didn't get married until 1974. Thanks so much for always visiting my blog and leaving your sweet comments. Have a great 4th of July. We're in a campground just out of Denali National Park in Alaska and saw so many animals on our bus tour into the park yesterday (but so cloudy, overcast and rainy we never saw the tops of any of the mountains including McKinley) - we saw nine grizzlies - saw a mother grizzly playing with her two cubs!

We have had a busy 4 days with the 4 little gkids here. Fun, but exhausting. I hope they have great memories of the 4th like you do!
Your mosaics are beautiful too!
